Full description: CMS has instructed Medicare contractors to crack-down on legible physician signature requirements. That means even if DMEPOS suppliers have everything they need to support a Medicare claim, it may still be denied upon review if the doctor signed a single CMN, written order or chart note with illegible hand writing (and we both know this happens all the time!). The good news is, there are several steps DME suppliers can take to prevent their Medicare claims from denying for illegible physician signatures (even if the physicians signs with chicken scratch!).
